The E.P.A. has determined that exposure to radon is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers!

Radon is in the environment naturally but can accumulate to excessive levels in every home. The only way to know if your home or the one you’re going to purchase is safe, is for a licensed professional to test for it under stringent conditions.
Radon is measured in pCi/L (Pico Curie Per Liter). This is a standard measurement for radioactivity. It corresponds to 1 atom of radon decaying every 27 seconds in every liter of air.
A home with a 600 sq foot area that has an 8’ ceiling and radon at 4 pCi/L has approx. 1,739,776,000 atoms of radon decaying every 24 hours just in this space alone!
If you breathe the air in this space the radon will become trapped your lungs and decay. This process releases alpha radiation which can cause cancer in lung tissue. It is estimated that radon causes 15,000 to 20,000 cases of lung cancer each year.
There are no immediate symptoms associated with radon exposure and not everyone exposed to elevated levels will develop lung cancer. The amount of time between exposure and the onset of cancer may be many years.
Don’t take a chance with someone in your family getting lung cancer – test for it!
